Saturday's Premier Division review

By David Watters

Surprisingly, just three games into the new EVO-STIK League Premier campaign, no team possesses a one hundred per cent record, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Grantham Town and Stafford Rangers both lost their first matches, and although there are still eight sides yet to taste defeat, no-one has been able to make it three from three.

The Gingerbreads went down to a 2-1 defeat at Hurst Cross against Ashton United, whose Liam Tomsett put them in front after 43 minutes. Luke Shaw pulled the Lincolnshire side level 17 minutes from time, but a last-gasp Mark Lees effort condemned Grantham to their first defeat.

Stafford lost 4-1 on their own Marston Road patch for Buxton`s first win of the campaign after two successive defeats.

The Bucks found their form with goals from Niall Doran after 33 minutes, Sam Smith four minutes after the break and then a Liam Hardy brace in the 57th and 90th minutes – Dan Westwood replying 20 minutes from time.

Shaw Lane AFC and Nantwich Town both also recorded their first three-point hauls.

The newly-promoted Barnsley outfit inflicted a second defeat on Hednesford Town at home, benefiting from a second minute Ben Bailey own goal. And after Matty Dodd equalised on the half-hour mark, Ryan Qualter on 44 minutes and experienced striker Paul Clayton 15 minutes from time, won it for the hosts.

The Dabbers also condemned Workington AFC to their second loss, 2-0 at the Weaver Stadium with goals from Harry Clayton after 38 minutes and Jordan Davies three minutes after the break.

In contrast, Coalville Town and relegated Altrincham join the Pitmen in having yet to earn a win. In the Ravens case, it`s three successive defeats as they were beaten 3-0 at Owen Street by fancied Warrington Town.

The visitors broke through immediately after the break through a Sean Williams penalty and then added to that through Tony Gray after 57 minutes and Josh Hine 17 minutes from time.

Dwayne Wiley`s goal three minutes after half-time eventually earned Matlock Town the points and a second win at home to Altrincham.

Newly-promoted Farsley Celtic and Witton Albion, Stourbridge and Barwell also recorded second wins.

Farsley won 2-1 at the Grove against Halesowen Town, with Nathan Cartman and James Walshaw scoring within two minutes of each other around the half-hour mark and Roland Agbor replying three minutes from time.

Witton's Steven Tames scored after just six minutes at Wincham Park against Sutton Coldfield Town and that eventually proved enough.

Stourbridge won 3-1 at the Turnbull Ground against Whitby Town with a Jordan Archer brace after Paul McCone`s opener – Luke Bythway for the hosts and Michael Townsend`s 23rd minute effort, sealed Barwell`s win at Marine AFC.

Elsewhere, a Dominic Dell penalty 14 minutes from time sealed Rushall Olympic`s win at Dales Lane against relegated Stalybridge Celtic, and newly-promoted Lancaster City shared a 1-1 Giant Axe draw with Mickleover Sports, whose Andy Dales broke the deadlock after 69 minutes and Ryan Winder levelled six minutes from time.
