Scholar's boxing clever to back bout

By David Watters

Chasetown

If Sheffield’s manager turned professional boxer Curtis Woodhouse ever signed Chasetown’s Dave Egan ‘handbags’ might be an understatement in the event of a dressing room row!

The pair would certainly be evenly matched. Like Woodhouse, the 29-year-old attacking midfielder is pursuing his boxing dream as a light welterweight and has launched a Facebook campaign to get Scholars supporters along to his next bout before Christmas.

Egan, pictured sparring playfully with his manager Craig Harris, is waiting to find out who his next opponent will be for his fourth professional fight at Birmingham’s HMV Institute on Sunday December 16. But that hasn’t stopped him launching an internet campaign to get as many fans as possible along to cheer him to victory in the ring.

Known inside the ring as 'Handsome Dave Egan', he returned to The Scholars Ground for his third spell with the Evo-Stik NPL First Division South club this season having already scored 41 goals in nearly 250 appearances.

The boxer has already won over his manager Harris and is vowing to win a title like Woodhouse who won the English 10 Stone belt with a points victory in September.

"It’s a great excuse for everyone to meet up for Christmas drinks and enjoy some top quality professional boxing," said Egan. "I’m looking to put on a real good show against a better opponent. Each fight will get harder and more exciting now until I win a title!"
