The Scholars have paid tribute to Norris Russell, pictured, after learning of the popular grandfather's passing passing on Tuesday. A life member of the First Division South club and in his early eighties, Mr Russell was a regular face and voice at games, both home and away.
Chasetown press officer Paul Mullins, who like many at the club counted their late fan as a friend, said: "It was with great sadness that we learned of the passing of one of our longest serving and keenest supporters. Norris Russell has been a regular at The Scholars Ground for as long as any of us can remember.
"From a personal point of view, I recall he was the first supporter who went to Bishop’s Cleeve on the opening day of the season after our promotion and wanted to be the first one through the gate. I vividly recall him asking 'How much for a poor pensioner?' followed by 'Do you have change for a £50 note?'"

"Recent illness may have prevented him from coming to matches but Norris would always ring up for the half-time and full-time score. He was never away from Chasetown FC in spirit."
He added: "A popular man, Norris had time for everyone at the club, new and old supporters, visitors and guests. He will be sorely missed by all."
