S/East round up: Leek Town remain top of division

By James Gordon

At the top of the table, Leek Town were on the right side of a five-goal thriller in a local derby as they defeated Kidsgrove Athletic to retain a two point lead in the BetVictor S/East Division.

Lewis Short opened the scoring in the 11th minute, before Anthony Malbon equalised in the 41st, but it was short lived as Marc Grocott regained the lead just before half-time. Darren Chadwick then made it 3-1, before a penalty from Lee Williamson threatened a comeback.

Carlton Town pushed back into the play-offs following a 1-1 draw against Sutton Coldfield Town, as Frickley Athletic fell short to Belper Town with a scoreline of 2-1.

Elsewhere in the play-offs, Stamford remain second following an impressive 4-2 win away to Ilkeston, with the highest attendance of any game in the S/East Division with 552. The home side took the lead through Daniel Mullarkey in the 15th minute, but Stamford went into the break 2-1 up with an own goal from Kieran Fenton and a goal from Tom Siddons. Jamie Walker then equalised from the penalty spot, but two more from Stamford through James Hicks and Harry Vince saw a convincing win.

Cleethorpes Town displayed a dominant performance against Lincoln United, with a 3-0 win. Goals from Paul Walker, Oli Donald and Curis Bateson.

Chasetown have opened up a five point gap to the relegation spot thanks to a single goal from Ryan Wynter, claiming a 1-0 victory over Market Drayton Town.

At the foot of the table, Wisbech Town lost 1-0 to Worksop Town thanks to a goal from Craig Mitchell, while Newcastle Town in 18th drew 1-1 away to Glossop North End.

The world’s first drew 1-1 with Stocksbridge Park Steels, who sit three points outside the play-offs, while Jack Smith helped Spalding United to a 1-0 win over Loughborough Dynamo.
