Setchell challenges frontmen to fill Duffy void

King's Lynn Town manager Gary Setchell is challenging the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League club's remaining strikers to fill the void left by Rob Duffy’s exit.

The Linnets’ top scorer quit The Walks by mutual consent on Tuesday, six months after arriving at the Premier Division club but Setchell insists he has no interest in bringing in fresh firepower.

Setchell, pictured, told the Eastern Daily Express on Wednesday: "I’m not going to bring in another striker. I’ll give the other lads a chance. If anything I’m looking to bring in a defender.

"I spoke to Duffs and explained the situation. I feel in our remaining games I can have a look at our other striking options, while giving him the chance to find a new club before ‘deadline day’. He’s not the type of player I can afford to have sitting on the bench.

"He’s a genuine lad who cared about the club and possesses a lot of qualities. It’s just a shame it didn’t work out how we’d have both hoped it would when he signed. This gives our other strikers the chance to stake a claim for the rest of this season and next."

Duffy, 31, scored 13 goals in 28 appearances. His departure leaves Setchell relying on frontmen Massiah McDonald, Sam Mulready, Ewan Clarke and Charley Sanders – on loan from Boston United until the end of the campaign.
