Signing strengthens promotion push

EVO-STIK League promotion-chasers Frickley Athletic have signed Sam Liversidge to tighten up their defence over the run-in.

The former Sheffield Wednesday scholar and Buxton, Goole and Sheffield FC central defender signed for Blues boss Spencer Fearn on Thursday after ending his second spell in the Northern Counties East League with Worksop Town to switch to Westfield Lane.

The 28-year-old, pictured, is expected to go straight into Fearn's fourth-placed squad for Saturday's EVO-STIK League South six pointer at third-placed Bedworth United.

A delighted Fearn told the Blues website at lunchtime on Thursday: “We have signed a player of real quality and Sam will add even more competition for places within our squad. He is a very good centre-back and can play further up field if needed. He’s a strong character and it’s great news for us that he is now a Frickley player.”
