Like teams from around the EVO-SIK NPL visiting Stormy Corner in recent seasons, the EVO-STIK NPL Premier Division club's fans donated shirts to a football 'chain of memorabilia' to raise awareness of Alfie Lund - an eight-year-old Skem fan who suffers from a extremely rare chromosome disorder called MECP2 Duplication syndrome.
Started by Alfie's parents Mark and Rachel Lund in 2014 to raise awareness of Alfie's condition and buy specialist equipment for their son by setting a world record for football memorabilia, the chain now features more than two miles of shirts, scarves and flags thanks to the EVO-STIK NPL's supporters and many others at Non-League, Football League and Premier League clubs.
Mark Lund sent his thanks to the fans and officials of the Glassboys on Facebook a week after they proudly flew the flag for the EVO-STIK NPL in the third round of the Emirates FA Cup at the Adams Park home of League Two Wycombe Wanderers.
Pictured with Alfie and some of Stourbridge's contingent after a 4-0 victory for their cup heroes at the weekend, he posted: "Many thanks to Stourbridge FC for all their support of The Alfie Lund Fund at Alfie's club Skelmersdale United. Supporters donating scarfs and doing a footy card on the coach we cannot thank you enough, and to hear Stour fans singing Alfie Lund touched me, fantastic club and supporters and friends for life #nplfamily."
Although there are a couple of reported cases in girls, MECP2 Duplication syndrome occurs almost exclusively in boys. For further information on fundraising for Alfie, follow them on Twitter @alfielundfund.
