Hednesford Town boss Rob Smith reckons the club’s fans roared his Pitmen to a 3-2 victory at North Ferriby United on Saturday.
The Keys Park outfit, six points behind The Villagers before kick-off, rallied from 1-0 and 2-1 down to score two goals in the final six minutes to win the weekend’s top-of-the-table Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division encounter.
Smith lavished praise on supporters after a host made the 240 mile round trip to see their side inflict on North Ferriby their only home defeat of the season and their first reverse in sixteen matches.
Smith said: "I cannot praise the supporters enough. I honestly dont think I've seen our away support in so many numbers. I went there with Telford once and there were not as many as on Saturday. If the supporters did not realise how much the players love the support they surely do now!"
Smith was quick to credit his players too for continuing to show superb character in playing until the very last minute. The Pitmen are now just three points off the top with two games in hand and he added: "I'm pleased that we turned up and put in a performance on the day that I knew we were capable of.
"North Ferriby are the best team we have played away all season and it was a fantastic game of football. The lads just have a never say die spirit and even when I want to try and shut up shop, they still pile forward."
Hednesford, who beat Burton Albion 5-4 in the Birmingham Senior Cup's Second Round on Tuesday night, face another tough league test on Saturday with the arrival of FC United of Manchester at Keys Park.
