Smith 'desperate' to return to playing ways after weather

Hednesford Town update, by Chris Brewerton

Hednesford Town boss Rob Smith declared his squad are 'desperate' to return to action against Stoke City on Tuesday night at Keys Park in the Staffordshire Senior Cup following a two week break which has also seen cult hero Marvin Robinson make a big money move to Brackley.

The Pitmen lie third in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier Division but have been denied the opportunity to atone for two straight defeats by the recent cold snap and Smith is delighted that his sqaud will be able to test themselves against a young and fit Stoke City side before a massive home game versus fifth-placed Marine at Keys Park on Saturday.

'Im sure they are desperate to get back playing as we all want a game now and a tough test against Stoke City is just what we need to blow away a few cobwebs in time for what is a massive game on Saturday.'

On the departure of striker Robinson, Snith was keen to stress he wanted the ex-Derby County target man to stay but could understand 'Big Marv's' decision.

'I wanted him to stay but he was offered big money for this level of football and we simply aren't prepared to compete at that level. Marv was a top lad and did really well for us; I wish him all the best. I'm sure, like many of our supporters, we will remember his hat trick in our 5-4 victory over Stafford Rangers, the over-head kick winner will stay in the memory for a very long time.'

Tuesday's meeting with Premier League Stoke City kicks off at 7.45pm at Keys Park and all supporters are encouraged to take advantage of a first home game for almost a month in preparation for the visit of Marine on Saturday in the league, kick off 3pm.
