South Shields reveal injury blow

South Shields have announced midfielder Michael Woods will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.

Woods has not featured for the Mariners since their 1-0 win over Hyde United on 18 March.

In a statement, the NPL Premier Division league leaders confirmed he will see a specialist next week to determine the full severity of the injury.

Shields has played an important role in midfield for Kevin Phillips’ side this season. He has made 26 appearances, scoring eight goals. His last goal came in October, when he scored the winner at Liversesdge.

The Mariners have confirmed Conor Newton has returned to the club in order to fill the gap. The club retained his registration during his time away, and can come straight back into the squad ahead of the busy Easter period.
