Southall takes Goulding back to Bangor

Burscough

EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Burscough have thanked Derek Goulding for his services after their manager left Victoria Park at the weekend to join Neville Southall's management team at Bangor City.

Goudling, pictured, was in his second spell at the Linnets after returning in September 2011. He told his players before Saturday's 3-1 win over Ossett Town in First Division North that he was leaving to return to one of his former clubs as a player.

In a statement on their website confirming his departure, the Linnets said: "He has chosen to take a job at Bangor City FC, one of his former teams he played for. The club wish him all the best in the future and appreciate the time he put into the club. The club shall be making no further comment at this time about the vacancy."

Goulding took over at Burscough for the first time in 2003 and masterminded their famous 3-2 FA Cup First Round win in 2005 over League One outfit Gillingham. In May 2008 the UEFA 'A' and UEFA 'B' coach left to join the newly formed AFC Liverpool as their first manager before leaving the North West Counties Football League club in Easter 2010 and returning to the Linnets the following season.

As a player Goudling won the Alliance Premier League with Altrincham in 1982 and went on to win many more honours with Bangor City, Oswestry Town, Stafford Rangers, Chorley, Halifax Town and Southport were he helped the club win promotion to the Conference in 1993.

The 41-year-old will be familiar to many Bangor fans from his playing days for the club at Farrar Road in the 1980s when he partnered Kevin Mooney in the central defence.

Goulding told www.bangorcityfc.com on Sunday: "The opportunity to again link up with Nev and Bangor City was one that I couldn't turn down. Bangor City have always been a club close to me and are one of the biggest teams in Welsh football. I'm sure that working with Nev we can get Bangor City back to where we should be."
