Stalybridge land Fleetwood youngster

Stalybridge Celtic have signed midfielder Anthony Williams and re-signed Steve O’Halloran as player/coach.

Williams, 18, arrives from Fleetwood Town where he has been full-time since 2018.

He said: “I’m very excited to join Stalybridge Celtic, I can’t wait to get started with all the lads.”

Meanwhile, O’Halloran has committed to a second year at Bower Fold, after becoming club captain in a first season where he made 37 appearances.

O’Halloran said: “I am delighted to be signing back on for another season with Celtic.

“Last season was a solid year for the club which I hope we can only go and improve upon for the new season.

“I’ve spoken with the gaffer and he’s offered me a great chance to come back in a player/coach role. I’m excited with my new role at Stalybridge. I hope I can use my knowledge and experience to help support the players and staff

“Hopefully it won’t be too much longer until football is back, I can’t wait to get going again.”

Manager Simon Haworth added: “We are pleased to have Steve back, I thought he led the team by example last season and was a really good captain. He gave us his all every week, always 100% with a great attitude.

“I’ve had a chat with Steve, realised that he is a year older but we want to keep him registered as a player as I still think he can be an asset to the team and certainly be an example for the younger players around him.

“We are delighted to sign Anthony, he comes well recommended from Fleetwood as a real energetic player with good quality too.

“He really pleased me with his attitude to play men’s football and to be a part of what we’re doing here this season.”
