Stamford sign talented winger

Stamford AFC have announced the signing of winger Connor Furey from Corby Town.

Furey, 23, featured heavily for Corby Town last season, making 43 appearances and scoring 5 goals.

The young winger becomes Stamford's latest signing as they look to go one step further following last season's play-off semi-final defeat to Belper Town.

Stamford manager Graham Drury is excited to see how Furey bolsters his teams attacking options next season.

"Connor is a bright young talent who played for Corby town last season," he said.

"He’s a winger that is very direct and chips in with goals. His direct running at defenders caught my eye and I was pleased he agreed terms to join us.

"I see bits in his game that we can help him with to become a better player and if he keeps improving, he has a bright future in the game and that can only be good for us. Welcome on board and let’s get the fire in Furey."

On what Stamford fans can expect from him next season, Furey said, "I’m a winger that can play on the left or the right. I'm hardworking and would like to think I have a bit of pace about me and I love getting defenders [one-on-one] and creating chances.

"Hopefully, I can chip in with some goals and assists this season too."

Furey stated that it was an easy decision to make the switch from local rivals Corby Town to Stamford.

"I played for Corby Town for the last couple of years, my hometown club, coming through the youth there. I also had a spell with Rothwell Corinthians when I was 16/17.

"It was a no-brainer when speaking to the gaffer and hearing the plans for the club and me personally going forward, everyone knows what a good club Stamford are and the ambition that is there and I can’t wait to get going and hopefully get the promotion the club deserves."
