Star midfielder ruled out of season

Leek Town midfielder Kyle Blake has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2017-18 EVO-STIK League season.

The Blues wished the 25-year-old a speedy recovery on Monday after a scan revealed a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

The former Doncaster Rovers, Market Drayton Town,Nantwich Town and Newcastle Town star sustained the injury in a 2-1 defeat at Bedworth United on Tuesday 3 October and now faces an operation next month.

Blake arrived at Harrison Park from EVO-STIK League South rivals Newcastle Town in the summer and had made 13 appearances for the Blues before the premature end to his campaign.

Blake was the manager's and players' 'player of the year' at Castle last term and isn't expected to return until the summer of 2018.

A Blues spokesman said: "Everyone at the club wishes Kyle all the best for a speedy recovery and we look forward to him pulling on the blue shirt again at the start of next season."
