Step 4 round-up | Saturday 14 October

Recap the latest action from Step 4 of the Northern Premier League…

In the NPL East Division, Belper Town remain top on goal difference after a quickfire second half double from Cameron Johnson and Ravarnelle James helped the Nailers to a 2-0 win at home to Bridlington Town.

It was a positive afternoon for the division’s high-flyers, with Belper’s four nearest challengers - Hebburn Town, Pontefract Collieries, Stockton Town and Cleethorpes Town - all claiming maximum points.

Further down the division, Ashington AFC piled on the misery for bottom-of-the-table Winterton Rangers, winning 4-0 on their travels and inflicting an eight league defeat of the season upon the hosts.

In the NPL Midlands Division, league leaders Spalding United continued their strong start thanks to a 2-1 victory over Boldmere St Michaels.

The Tulips are closely followed by Loughborough Dynamo and Bedworth United, with both teams only two points adrift of the leaders after 2-0 and 3-2 victories at Quorn and Corby Town respectively.

There were seven goals shared at the Titan Recruitment Stadium as Walsall Wood overcame Hinckley 4-3, despite a first half hat-trick from visiting forward Tendai Daire.

A 2-2 draw between Sporting Khalsa and Gresley Rovers meant the points were shared, with the result enough to see Khalsa move to 5th in the table despite them letting slip a two-goal lead at home.

In the NPL West Division, Newcastle Town played host to a seven-goal thriller as Scott Wara's 90th minute winner helped Stalybridge Celtic snatch all three points on their travels.

Hanley Town moved up to 9th place following a goal-fest of their own, beating 1874 Northwich 4-2 following braces from Tyrone Ofori and Luke Walsh.

Meanwhile, Vauxhall Motors secured three crucial points against fellow strugglers Hednesford Town, with the Ellesmere Port-based side scoring two late goals to come from behind and beat the Pitmen 3-2.

Recently-appointed Bootle manager Mick McGraa led the Bucks back to winning ways away at 6th-placed Mossley, a Jake Burton proving to be the difference on the day.
