Step 4 Round-up | Saturday 23 September

Recap the latest action from Step 4 of the Northern Premier League…

Pontefract Collieries moved up to second place in the NPL East Division with a 2-0 victory away at fellow early-season pacesetters Consett AFC.

Connor Smythe broke the deadlock early on in the second half before Adam Priestly converted from the spot in injury time to seal all three points.

A feisty encounter between Bridlington Town and Cleethorpes Town saw the Owls claim their second win of the season.

The visitors took the lead in the 14th minute through Alex Flett’s penalty before Ali Aydemir fired the Seasiders in front with a second half brace.

However, the scores would be level after Jack Bulless turned the ball into his own net just before the final quarter of the game, and Bridlington Town’s misery was compounded when Aydemir went from hero to zero following a sending off for a second bookable offence.

Cleethorpes would have the final say when Will Annan’s last-gasp 20-yard free-kick hit the back of the net, ensuring that the visitors would leave with all of the spoils.

In the NPL Midlands Division, Spalding United moved within one point of league leaders Bedworth United with an emphatic 6-1 victory over Shepshed Dynamo.

There were six different scorers on the goalsheet for the Tulips with James Clifton opening the scoring after four minutes before Glenn Walker, Jordan Graham, Danny Draper, Kyle Barker and Nathan Stainfield fired home to round off a fantastic display at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field.

Hot on their heels is Lye Town who moved up to third place after playing out a thrilling 4-2 win at home to Rugby Town.

Despite a late fightback from the visitors, Adam Meacham’s hattrick and Sam Hall’s finish proved too much of an obstacle to overcome.
