Students send birthday best wishes

Loughborough Dynamo

The students and staff at the school behind the foundation of Loughborough Dynamo have sent the EVO-STIK League club their best wishes as it prepares to celebrate its diamond anniversary this season.

The First Division South club was founded in 1955 by pupils at Loughborough Grammar School who still wanted to play football after the Leicestershire school dropped the sport in favour of playing rugby. Dynamo entered a league for the first time two years later and nearly sixty years on have received a message of support from the school’s current headmaster Paul Fisher.

He said: "All at Loughborough Grammar School send Loughborough Dynamo best wishes for a successful diamond anniversary. It seems quite remarkable that a group of disillusioned schoolboys had the determination and desire to continue playing football and formed their own club when rugby was introduced here. One can only imagine the secrecy involved around the school campus at the time ensuring staff were unaware of what was happening!

"That the club is still in existence 60 years later is testament to their successors being equally determined as the original founders were in maintaining both the quantity and quality of players at the club.

"After a 50 year absence the School reintroduced competitive football and has enjoyed much success in recent years. With the sport now fully re-established we are now looking at ways we can work more closely with the club we inadvertently founded 60 years ago.”

Dynamo are launching their 60th anniversary celebrations when they take on a Leicester City XI at the Nanpantan Sports Ground in a pre-season friendly on Monday 21 July.

Loughborough Dynamo's press and publicity officer John Bryson said: "It has been decided to celebrate Loughborough Dynamo's sixty years with events spread over the next two seasons.

"All at Loughborough Dynamo are looking forward to celebrating this special milestone in the club's history and to launch the celebrations we are very honoured to have a Leicester City XI visit us for a pre-season friendly."
