Sucharewycz: My Gingerbreads won't crumble

By David Watters

Grantham Town

Grantham Town's joint manager Gary Sucharewycz reckons the Gingerbreads fear nobody as they head into a must win game at Rushall Olympic, writes Graham Cowell.

Sucharewycz knows the the Pics will be as desperate for three points as his own side to avoid being dragged into a relegation scrap but insists the Gingerbreads will be taking a positive approach at Dales Lane and again on New Year's Day when they are at home to bottom-of-the-table Eastwood Town

Sucharewycz said: "We don’t go into any game fearing anyone. It is an open league and you have to be on your game every match. Rushall are a strong, physical side and can be very effective on their day. We need to focus on how we can cause them problems. It will be a tough game, but we can hold our own with anyone in a physical battle.”

Between them Grantham and Rushall have only managed one win each in their last 16 league games, the last five producing no points for Grantham. Rushall have fared slightly better, drawing four of their last eight. Grantham can take heart that only two sides have worse home form than Saturday's opponents in their last eight home games.

* There may be changes to the Gingerbreads side to face Rushall Olympic after a bid for Lee Potts by Wednesday’s opponents Worksop. They would have been looking on nervously as the left winger left the field after taking a knock. Joint manager Gary Sucharewycz hopes the player will still be a Gingerbread on Saturday as he says Potts is happy at the club.

Sucharewycz and joint manager Ian Robinson have been busy wheeling and dealing over the last few days with Jermaine Hollis making his debut against Worksop and Julian Toplis and Tommy Hannigan both signing at the same time.

Toplis didn’t spend long at the Meres. Carlton Town had also tried to sign the player and the two clubs have agreed his move to the Nottingham side as part of the deal that brings striker Sam McVicar to Grantham.

In other team news, Emeka Nwadike comes back into the squad and Grantham have also registered Alton Rennalls from Hucknall, although he is suspended. Nathan Watson, a new signing from Quorn is also suspended. Deon Meikle has signed a contract for the Gingerbreads they try to keep hold of the highly rated defender with enquiries for his services still arriving. Ash Robinson have been released.
