Three Lions fans aid Blues

Dedicated England Frickley Athletic fan Chad Thomas has raised nearly £300 for the Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division club’s £50,000 community development project from fellow Three Lions supporters.

The Blues supporter has helped the club lift their current total to more than £7000 by selling football cards to fellow England fans on coaches travelling to Moldova for the 5-0 World Cup Qualifier victory.

The supporter, pictured inside Moldova's national stadium, launched his Blues sales pitch on the arduous two day trip to Eastern Europe to raise £113.80. He followed that up on his return with a bucket collection outside the Green Man pub nearly Wembley Stadium before last week’s 1-1 draw with Ukraine.

Together with fellow Blues supporter Rod Acorn, the pair raised a further £162.09 after winning the support of the pub's landlord, boosting Frickley’s fundraising by £275.89 in total.

Frickley Athletic spokesman Steve Pennock said: "We are extremely grateful not only to Chad but also to Rod Alcorn and the Green Man pub near Wembley as well as all the England fans who have given generously to Frickley’s cause."

Frickley’s next fundraising initiative is a Race Night on Saturday 29 September at ‘The Nags’ in South Elmsall. The Blues are also organising a Darts Tournament the following weekend on Saturday 6 October after their home game against AFC Fylde.
