Three more student stars on trial!

Proud coaches at the NPLFA and EVO-STIK League Premier Division Micklover Sports are keeping their fingers crossed for 18-year-old central defenders Robinson and Williams after they kicked off on month long trials with Championship Derby County on Monday.

Now in their second year with the NPLFA and ever presents for John McGraths’s ‘Joma Division’ title challengers and in his EVO-STIK League Premier Division first team squad this season, the duo are bidding to follow in the footsteps of Matlock Town's NPLFA graduate Max Hunt after he completed a dream move to the Rams nearly three weeks ago.

They have plenty of competition to become the latest NPLFA students to make the jump to the pro game after Witton Albion's 18-year-old NPLFA keeper Josh Tyler-Williams also went on trial at Football League Cheltenham Town on Monday and Matlock midfielder Zac Brunt headed to Premier League Leicester City last week.

Robinson and Williams were selected for the NPLFA's inter-league game against Port Vale in April 2017 and have caught the eye of several professional clubs this season before being invited over the weekend to train and trial at Pride Park.

The NPLFA congratulated the latest potential graduates to come off their growing production line in a statement on Monday.

A spokesman said: "We are delighted to hear that Mickleover Sports students Tyreece Robinson and Morgan Williams are currently on trial at Championship club Derby County. On behalf of everyone at the NPL Football Academy we would like to congratulate both students and wish them the best of luck over the next month.

"We are also delighted to hear that Witton Albion student Josh Tyler-Williams will spend a few days this week on trial at Football League club Cheltenham Town. He has just returned from injury but his performances before that impressed his club where he has been training with the first team and has now caught the eye of a professional club.

The spokesman added: "On behalf of everyone at the NPL Football Academy we would like to congratulate Josh and wish him the best of luck this week."

The NPLFA was founded with the backing of the Football Association at five pilot clubs in September 2014 to provide career pathways into the football industry with youngsters studying on two year BTEC courses.

Still the only league-wide academy in English football combining sport with education and expanded to 12 members clubs, the NPLFA started offering its fourth intake of students the chance to continue their education to degree level in the summer of 2017 after teaming up with Loughborough College to launch a new higher education partnership.
