Thursday's First South action review

By David Watters

Second met third in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's First Division South on Thursday night as Witton Albion hosted Spalding United at Wincham Park looking for a win to take them to top of the table, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Witton were playing their second match of the week, having beaten Carlton Town on Tuesday night, also at home, and they broke the deadlock against the Tulips with a fine strike by Tom Owens after 32 minutes.

That was the half-time scoreline but eight minutes into the second period, Will Jones doubled Albion`s lead, only for Leon Mettam to pull one back almost immediately.

And then Jordan Lemon equalised after 68 minutes as Witton tired and the sides shared the spoils, leaving the home side now level on points with leaders Shaw Lane AFC and Spalding eight points clear of sixth-placed AFC Rushden & Diamonds.
