Thursday's Premier Division action review

By David Watters

Spennymoor Town moved into second place in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's Premier Division after a second successive win this week, beating almost-doomed Ilkeston FC 3-0 at the Brewery Field on Thursday night, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

It certainly wasn`t The Moors at their best – especially in the opening 45 minutes – but at this stage of the season it`s all about results.

It took the home side until 10 minutes into the second half to have a shot properly on target and it counted as David Dowson put the hosts in front.

The second and decisive goal came 13 minutes from time when Graeme Armstrong put Dowson through and he tucked the ball away with ease. And Dowson managed to complete his hat-trick with almost the last kick of the game.

The win lifts Moors six points clear of sixth-placed Warrington Town and at least makes leaders Blyth Spartans play for the championship, which could arrive on Saturday. As for troubled Ilkeston, they are now 14 points from safety with just 15 left to play for.
