Tony Davison to step down at Nantwich

Nantwich Town have announced that chairman Tony Davison will step down from the board at the club's AGM later this month.

He will be taking up the position as director at League Two side Crewe Alexandra as part of the ongoing restructuring currently underway at The Alexandra Stadium.

Commenting on the move, Tony Davison said: “I have greatly enjoyed my time at Nantwich Town FC but when the opportunity to be involved in the brand-new era at Crewe Alex came along I realised that this was something that might never happen again in my lifetime so I had to seize it. It is a hugely exciting time to get involved as The Alex enters this new era.

“After five years as Chairman at Nantwich Town the time is right to move on. It has been a great time for the club with two Northern Premier League play offs, reaching the FA Cup First Round twice and an FA Trophy semi-final, not forgetting back-to-back Cheshire Senior Cup wins, the most successful period in the club’s long history.

“Dave Cooke and his coaching team have built a first–class squad, capable of playing in the National League. We are in the mix for the play-offs yet again and have a credible chance to gain promotion this season.

“Away from the first team the club has also made massive strides, especially in the Youth set-up, led by Lyndon Wain, who is doing a fantastic job as Community Development Manager, where we now have over thirty teams from U7 to U18 as well as a growing number of girls’ teams, walking football, disability teams and veterans.

“Off the field, the club continues to improve with more community functions held at the club, all helping to secure its financial well–being.

“I will leave behind fond memories but continue to support the club when fixture clashes allow, but do so as an avid supporter, without the pressure of being a Board Member. I wish Nantwich Town every success for the future.”
