Touchline reunion for teammates

New Clitheroe manager Simon Howarth has named former Welsh international Gareth Roberts as his number two at the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's Blues.

The former Liverpool, Tranmere, Doncaster, Derby, Bury, Notts County, Chester and Stockport County defender, 38, was unveiled as Howarth's assistant at Shawbridge on Monday, a week after his own appointment as the successor to former boss Simon Garner who stood down after the club narrowly missed out on reaching the play-offs.

Fellow former Welsh international Howarth, pictured, told the club's fans that his former teammate would also be registered to play and would be a great addition for his first season at the helm in EVO-STIK NPL First Division North with over 20 years of experience in the game.

The 39-year-old, who counts Cardiff City, Coventry City, Wigan Athletic and Tranmere Rovers among his own former clubs, said: "I'm thrilled to have Gaz on board and look forward to working together again. He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge that will be invaluable for Clitheroe Football Club."
