Tough start for new boys

The Gingerbreads return to action on Saturday with two new signings vying for places in the team travelling to Evo-Stik Northern Premier League leaders North Ferriby United.

The prolonged cold snap may not have seen much action on the pitch in recent weeks but the Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division outfit's joint managers Gary Sucharewycz and Ian Robinson have been busy off it with Darren Elliott joining from Eastwood Town and Elliott Green arriving from Lincoln City.

Sucharewycz says the pair represent just the type of young and talented players they're looking to recruit as they overall the squad they inherited from former joint bosses Jimmy Albans and Wayne Hallcro.

He said: "We are bringing players to the club for the future and not just for this season. Danny Elliott and Elliott Green are the sort of players we mean. We are building a squad of good young players. The signings, along with Sam MacVicar, Kallum Smith, Nathan Watson and James Martin among others, show the way we want to be going.

"I have always liked the way Danny has played since I first saw him. He is only 20, yet at this level of football is very comfortable on the ball, strong and likes to get on the front foot. He is very keen to learn things and has consistently been one of the better players at Eastwood over the last couple of years.

"We were kept in the loop about Elliott by Lincoln City and have received good reports on his loan periods even before he impressed us at training this week."
