Tuesday's First Division North action review

Evo-Stik NPL First Division North

Skelmersdale United maintained their unbeaten start in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division North with an excellent 2-0 win at table-toppers Mossley, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The home side came into the Seel Park encounter a little understrength due to injuries, but that can take nothing away from another confident performance by Skem, who went ahead through Anthony Hickey in the 28th minute and then hit the hosts with a second virtually straight from the restart by Paul Woolcott.

Farsley FC maintained second place after winning 3-0 at second-bottom Goole AFC.

The visitors hit the Vikings with a two goal burst in four minutes from Gareth Grant and Adam Priestley midway through the first half. Adam Muller then added a third with nine minutes remaining.

Third-placed Clitheroe were given a tough test at home to Lancashire neighbours Bamber Bridge before earning a 2-1 verdict.

Alex Johnson gave the home side a 22nd minute lead that Simon Nangle doubled five minutes before half-time. But Brig gave the home supporters a nervy finale when they pulled one back five minutes before the end of normal time through Craig Carney.

Bottom-markers Garforth Town's goals-against column now reads forty-four from eleven matches after the Yorkshire side suffered a 6-0 battering across the Pennines at Ramsbottom United.

It was a particularly good night for Rammy's Lee Gaskell, who helped himself to a hat-trick with goals in the 14th and 28th minute – both from the spot – and then 15 minutes from time. Jon Robinson bagged a brace with goals in the 45th and 63rd minute, and Grant Spencer sandwiched the other in the 29th minute.

A first half littered with goals and incident proved successful for Wakefield who edged local rivals Ossett Albion to the three points at Dimple Wells.

Albion went ahead through Marc Thompson after just seven minutes. Josh Grant hit back within minutes from the penalty spot to bring Wakefield back on level terms. Dale Kelly put Albion ahead on 24 minutes only for Ross Hardaker to bring Wakefield level again two minutes later.

On the stroke of half-time Shequille Clarke hit a great strike to take Wakefield in 3-2 at the interval, and although the second half saw chances at either end, no more goals came and Wakefield took away the three points.

The game between Burscough and Warrington Town ended all-square an one apiece.

The much-travelled Lee McEvilly gave the Wire a 13th minute lead that Darren Brookfield cancelled out on the half-hour mark.
