Curzon Ashton came out on top in a tense Tameside derby on Tuesday night, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

In truth, Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division North leaders Mossley can have little argument with the result, despite going into the break with the lead.

Adam Mather put the visitors in front after 31 minutes but Curzon came out and played with more verve and penetration to take the points, albeit with a highly contentious goal.

Curzon equalised three minutes into the second half when Mather could only strike a Scott Metcalfe cross past his own keeper Martin Pearson. The winner came with 17 minutes to play when Jordan Hadfield lifted the ball over the defence for Evans, who looked well offside. But the referee waved play on and Tony Evans showed composure to lash a high shot past Pearson.

Skelmersdale United took advantage of Mossley's slip-up to move to within six points of the top of the table after edging out Salford City by the odd goal in five at the West Lancashire College Stadium.

But Skem were forced to come back from being 2-0 down to win after the 'Ammies shocked their hosts with two goals in four minutes just after half-time from Nathan Taylor and then Dan White.

Mark Jackson reduced the deficit on 71 minutes and eight minutes later he levelled the scores. Gary Burnett then won it for the home side by netting a third goal in 11 minutes.

Harrogate Railway Athletic put a little more daylight between them and second-bottom Goole AFC by beating the Vikings 3-0 at Station View.

Two goals in the opening 15 minutes from Dan Thirkell and on-loan Ron Youhill put `Rail in command and Jake Lawlor made sure with a third five minutes after half-time.

The other game on Tuesday – with Prescot Cables, Radcliffe Borough and Ramsbottom United all having their home games postponed – saw Cammell Laird hold fourth-placed Trafford to a 1-1 draw.

Both goals came within three minutes of each other just after the break, with Kamahl Whight giving the visitors a 52nd minute lead and Freddie Potter equalising for Laird.
