Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division North

In the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division North on Tuesday night, Skelmersdale United took another giant stride towards the title with a narrow win at neighbours Prescot Cables, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The only goal of the game at Valerie Park came in the 18th minute, courtesy of Rob McIntosh, his strike lifting Tommy Lawson's side six points clear at the summit.

Their lead was extended due to second-placed Trafford's defeat by Bamber Bridge at Irongate by the same scoreline. The match-winning strike came in the very last minute from Dan Wilkins.

New Mills, who held Skem to a 1-1 draw last Saturday, are back in play-off contention after a 2-1 win at Moor Lane against Salford City. And they had to come back from being a 24th minute Jamie Rother goal down to win, Sam Egerton levelling within two minutes and then Chris Luby grabbing the winner just past the hour-mark.

Strugglers Wakefield and Ossett Albion shared a 1-1 draw in a lackluster local derby match. Albion opened the scoring on 28 minutes through veteran Richard Tracey.

It could of been so different if Wakefield had converted the earlier spot-kick they were awarded but Josh Grant's effort was saved by Albion keeper Jody Barford. Then, on 75 minutes, Tom Marsden pounced to grab a Bears equaliser.

It ended goalless at the Stade France between Ossett Town and Harrogate Railway Athletic, while the game between Garforth Town and Cammell Laird was abandoned when the lights went out at the Genix Healthcare Stadium midway through the first half.
