Tuesday's First Division North action review

New Mills now need to overturn a twenty-nine goal difference, win their remaining six games and hope Skelmersdale United lose their remaining four matches, if they are to prevent the leaders from lifting the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division North title, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Effectively, Skem need a point from Saturday's home game against Farsley FC to celebrate after being surprisingly held to a goalless draw by second-bottom Goole AFC on Tuesday night.

For a team who have topped the 100 goal-mark to be unable to breach a defence that has leaked eighty-four goals comes as a surprise, especially as Tommy Lawson's side hit five away at Farsley last Saturday!

Farsley were beaten again on Tuesday as Mossley improved their play-off hopes with a 3-0 Seel Park success in which Sam Madeley bagged a brace in the 27th and 55th minutes, with Lewis Nightingale adding the third on 64 minutes.

Third-top Trafford, however, were held at home by third-bottom Ossett Albion. And it could have been a bigger surprise as the Yorkshire visitors led 2-0 with goals from Tyrone Gay after 36 minutes and Caldon Henson on 57 minutes. But Andrew Smart began the comeback ten minutes later and, almost inevitably, it was top scorer Michael Oates who salvaged what could be a big point for Trafford with 18 minutes remaining.

Ramsbottom United remain in fifth place, but were beaten 3-1 at Cammell Laird, who are now sixth and just two points behind Rammy with a game in hand. Mark Drew put the visitors ahead after 32 minutes but Lairds produced a fine second half performance to turn the game in their favour.

Joe Gibiliru equalised ten minutes after half-time and Craig Cairns levelled on 63 minutes, with a super Joe Holt strike winning it for Laird with 15 minutes to go.

Lancaster City won 2-1 at in-form Ossett Town, courtesy of goals from Billy McKenna on 35 minutes and Ryan Winder on 67 – Shane Kelsey replying 15 minutes from the end.

Elsewhere, Bamber Bridge went nap at home against bottom-markers Garforth Town, whose coach was late arriving at Irongate. Greg Johnstone gave Brig a 28th minute lead that Dan Wilkins doubled seven minutes later. Ali Waddecar made it 3-0 a couple of minutes after the break and then Wilkins went on to complete his hat-trick with two goals in the final ten minutes.

The game at Valerie Park between Prescot Cables and Burscough ended goalless.
