Tuesday's First Division North review

By David Watters

It was an important Tuesday evening in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's First Division North as four of the top five at the start of play were in action as well as Glossop North End who returned to fifth spot, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Leaders Lancaster City took on lowly Radcliffe Borough at the Giant Axe and won 3-1 to extend their advantage at the top of the table to seven points.

Jordan Connerton gave the Dolly Blues a 37th minute lead that Yahya Saeed cancelled out just past the hour-mark. Connerton restored his and City`s lead five minutes later from the penalty spot and then completed his hat-trick with three minutes remaining.

Farsley Celtic are fourth after winning 4-1 at Queensgate against a Scarborough Athletic side who started the match in fifth spot.

Peter Davidson put Celtic ahead after 12 minutes and six minutes later, James Walshaw doubled the visitors lead, only for Cameron Murray to pull one back for Boro three minutes after that. Paul Walker then made it 3-1 with 67 minutes gone on the clock and Walshaw`s second in stoppage time was the icing on the cake, also proving to be the goal that knocked Scarborough out of the play-off places on goal difference.

They have been overtaken by one goal by Glossop, who beat third-placed Trafford 1-0 at Shaw View, Max Leonard`s 20th minute effort eventually proving enough for the Hillmen.

Bamber Bridge moved to within three points of the top five after edging out Kendal Town 2-1 at Irongate.

Ali Waddecar bagged a brace for Brig in the 26th and 81st minutes before Sam Bailey reduced the arrears to just one in stoppage time from the spot.
