Tuesday's First Division South action review

Evo-Stik NPL First Division South

There was something of a Tuesday night goal fest in the Evo-Stik Northern Premeir League First Division South with the seven games producing thirty goals, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Rampant leaders Coalville Town contributed six of those – and that after also hitting Leek Town for six last Saturday!

Their victims on Tuesday were Mickleover Sports who conceded three inside the opening 17 minutes with Jerome Murdock, Anthony Carney and Cameron Powell on target. It was game over by half-time as, although Karl Ashton reduced the arrears in the 27th minute, Lewis Dodd and then Cameron Stuart made it 5-1 to the Ravens.

As is often the case with half-time scorelines like that, the second period was an anti-climax, with Murdock scoring the only goal 12 minutes from time to make the final score 6-1.

Coalville's lead is now five points after second-placed King's Lynn Town had to be content with a point from their visit to Raimworth Miners Welfare.

After a goalless first half a four-goal blast in 16 minutes lifted the contest, Jared Holmes and Karl Slack scoring either side of a double blast by the Linnets from Dan Quigley and Jordan Yong. And the Wrens hung on, despite having Callum Lloyd sent-off for a second caution in the fourth of seven added minutes - the club's first red card of the season.

Stamford AFC remain third after a 4-2 win at Coles Lane against Sutton Coldfield Town.

The Daniels maintained their unbeaten away record, taking a 13th minute lead through Danny Brooks and then doubling that on the half-hour mark through Jack McGovern, six minutes after Matt Gardner had equalised for the Royals.

Gardner pulled the home side back on terms again a minute before the break, only for Sam Mullarkey to make it 3-2 only three minutes into the second half. Brooks made sure with a fourth for Graham Drury's side with 20 minutes remaining.

Gresley FC gained a little revenge on fifth-placed Halesowen Town, who put the Moatmen out of the FA Trophy, to overcome the Yeltz in an enthralling game at the Moat Ground.

Luke Corbett gave the visitors a 26th minute lead from the penalty spot but goals from Marc Goodfellow after 40 minutes and then a Richard Hanslow double on 70 and 90 minutes gave the Moatmen all three points, despite Ben Haseley's late second.

Belper Town improved their position at the wrong end of the table after beating fellow strugglers Lincoln United 3-0 at Christchurch Meadow and move off bottom spot.

After a goalless first half, Colin Marrison broke the deadlock by giving the Nailers the lead on the hour-mark. Mark Ward increased that five minutes later and then Simon Harrison added a third in injury-time.

Loughborough Dynamo moved above Chasetown in mid-table after recording a similar victory in Leicestershire.

Matt Langham bagged a brace for the home side in the 11th and 30th minute, with Will Grocutt eventually making it 3-0 right at the end of the game.

Market Drayton Town moved into seventh spot after a 2-0 home success against a Kidsgrove Athletic side who are now bottom.

Rhys Swetnam put the hosts in front after 10 minutes and a Martyn Davies spot-kick just past the hour-mark ensured victory for Drayton.
