Tuesday's First Division South action review

By David Watters

Shaw Lane Aquaforce`s attempt to overhaul long-time EVO-STIK Northern Premier League First Division South leaders Stafford Rangers was halted on Tuesday by the weather as their home game with Goole AFC was postponed, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Third-placed Coalville Town, already assured of a top five finish, almost put an end to Rugby Town`s chances of making the play-offs after a nine-goal thriller at Owen Street.

The opening goal came after 11 minutes when visiting keeper Courtney Belfod missed a back pass from Tom Ryan and the ball rolled over his foot into the back of the net. Alex Dean made it 2-0 after 31 minutes but two quick goals from Steve Towers and Mitch Piggon pulled Valley level and then Towers out the visitors ahead right on half-time.

Alex Troke levelled on the hour-mark, only for Kurtis Revan to restore Rugby`s lead seconds later. Josh Raven equalised four minutes after that and Dean`s second with 15 minutes to go sealed the Ravens`s win and third spot.

Leek Town`s slim chances also went on Tuesday as they were beaten 2-0 at Christchurch Meadow by Belper Town, for whom Alex Steadman after 28 minutes and Laurence Constable in the 90th minute were on the mark.
