Tuesday's First North action review

Evo-Stik NPL First Division North

Lancaster City missed the opportunity to move into the top five in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's First Division North on Tuesday night after being held to a 1-1 draw by Clitheroe at the Giant Axe, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

It was a familiar story of chances missed for the Dolly Blues as a late penalty earned Clitheroe a point against ten-man City. Glenn Steel's header had put the Dolly Blues ahead in the 29th minute before a string of missed chances set the tone for Clitheroe to grab an equaliser.

Gavin Clark helped things along when he was sent-off for fouling Scott Bakkor who was through on goal in the 75th minute. Bakkor duly dispatched the penalty to earn Clitheroe a share of the spoils.

Kendal Town, in eighth, were shocked at Victoria Park by Burscough, who won comfortably 4-0 after a goalless opening 45 minutes.

The deadlock was broken by Luke Robinson after 57 minutes and then the Linnets added to their tally at regular intervals through Liam Caddick on 71 minutes, John Connolly four minutes later and Alex Russell in the 81st minute.

Mossley beat Prescot Cables 4-2 at Seel Park in the evening`s other game.

Doug Carroll's 21st minute spot-kick gave the Lilywhites the lead, only for Rob Doran to equalise a couple of minutes after half-time. Carroll added his second three minutes later before Ged Murphy pulled Cables back on terms in the 79th minute. But parity lasted barely a minute as Carroll completed his hat-trick, with Mark Haslam making it 4-2 in the last minute.
