Tuesday's First South action review

Evo-Stik NPL First Division South

Leek Town march on at the top of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division South table, Tuesday`s hard-fought victory over Romulus taking them six point clear of second-placed Coalville Town, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Jordan Johnson's close range finish after 22 minutes eventually proved enough for Lee Casswell's side against a Roms outfit who battled to the last.

Halesowen Town moved into third place after a 2-0 win against bottom-markers Kidsgrove Athletic at The Grove.

Top scorer Ben Haseley gave the Yeltz a 12th minute lead – his twenty-second of the season already - but it wasn`t until the hour-mark when Tom Tonks added a second that the high-flyers could be assured of three points.

Second-bottom Bedworth United went down to a 2-1 defeat to Chasetown at The Scholars.

New loan signing Ruben Wiggins-Thomas gave the Greenbacks a 23rd minute lead that Nick Wellecomme cancelled out in the 32nd minute. And what proved to be the winner for the home side came right on the half-time whistle from Paul Sullivan.

Gresley FC won 3-2 on the 3G at Coles Lane against Sutton Coldfield Town, who could have gone sixth had they won.

Goals from Eric Graves after 32 minutes, a Matt Jackson own goal just past the hour-mark and a Jordan Nadat strike on 65 minutes gave the Moatmen a 3-0 lead. Two late goals from substitute Mark Danks in the 71st – from the spot – and 82nd minutes led to a nervous finale, but Gresley held on for the win.
