Tuesday's Premier Division action review

Hednesford Town moved level on points with second-placed Ashton United in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's Premier Division on Tuesday night after edging out Matlock Town by the odd goal in five at Causeway Lane, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Aaron Rey gave the visitors a 13th minute lead that Francino Francis doubled five minutes before half-time. The in-form Massiah McDonald reduced the deficit nine minutes into the second half, only for Rey to notch his second of the game just four minutes later to make it 3-1. Joe Leesley caused a nervy finale when he pulled back a second in time added on, but the Pitmen held on.

Marine inflicted back-to-back home defeats on FC United of Manchester at Gigg Lane to move to within a point of Ashton and the Pitmen.

A crowd of 1,484 had to wait until the 83rd minute for the only goal of the game and it came from the Mariners' Nick Rogan.

Frickley Athletic bounced back from last Saturday's 5-0 defeat at Witton Albion to earn a thoroughly deserved draw against AFC Fylde at Westfield Lane.

Gavin Allott gave the home side the lead from the penalty spot right on half-time. In an entertaining game, the result could have gone either way as the Blues rattled the woodwork on more than one occasion. But they had to endure a nervous finale when put under pressure from the visitors after David Buck's equaliser 17 minutes from time.

The other game between Nantwich Town and Buxton also ended all-square at the Weaver Stadium.

Steven Istead gave the visiting Bucks a 23rd minute lead that Simon Everall cancelled out 10 minutes later. Mark Reed restored Buxton's lead 20 minutes from time, but the Dabbers earned a share of the spoils when Josh Lane popped up with the equaliser with four minutes to go.
