Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division

The game of the season in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's Premier Division took place on Tuesday night in front of a massive crown of 4,152 at Gigg Lane, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

And leaders Chorley and second-placed hosts FC United of Manchester served up a tremendous encounter that ended honours even, leaving the Magpies still holding a three-point lead at the top but with FC United possessing a crucial game in hand.

James Dean from the penalty spot after 12 minutes and then Josh Hine on ythe hour-mark put Chorley two-up. But between the goals Chorley's Darren Stephenson was sent-off just before the interval.

FC United threw everything at the Magpies in the last half-hour and eventually found a way past the ten-men with seven minutes remaining through new Chesterfield defender Charlie Raglan. And then, just three minutes later, the majority in the crowd erupted as Tom Greaves popped up with the equaliser.

AFC Fylde moved level on points with FC United, having played a game more, after winning 1-0 at Ilkeston FC. Matthew Blinkhorn grabbed the only goal of the game at the New Manor Ground with just 11 minutes remaining.

Skelmersdale United ended their miserable run of seven games without a win just at the right time – and severely dented visiting Worksop Town`s title hopes into the bargain, after a 2-1 win at the West Lancs College Stadium.

It didn`t look good for Skem when in-demand striker Leon Mettam gave the Tigers an early 10th minute lead. But Ashley Dunn levelled on the hour-mark. A draw looked on the cards when Kenny Strickland popped up with the home side`s winner in time added on.

At the other end of the table, Witton Albion grabbed an 83rd minute winner as fellow strugglers Frickley Athletic were forced to finish the game with ten-men after Fernando Moke was sent-off.

Witton took a 13th minute lead when Jake Picton inadvertently headed a corner into his own goal at the near post. Moke scored the equaliser in the 42nd minute before Witton's winner arrived with a sweeping move that ended with Alex Titchener scoring.

Two of the already-relegated teams, Droylsden and Stocksbridge Park Steels, both lost at home.

The Bloods were beaten 2-1 at the Butcher`s Arms by Barwell, who made it nine games unbeaten, thanks to a Luke Barlone brace in the 20th and 26th minutes – Sam Madeley replying from the spot a minute before the break.

Steels went down to a 3-1 Bracken Moor defeat to Stamford AFC, who are just about safe now.

The Daniels trailed to a 35th minute Janni Lipka goal before scoring twice in 10 minutes midway through the second half through Ryan Robbins and Nabil Shariff, who added a third in the last minute.
