Tuesday's Premier Division action review

By David Watters

Skelmersdale United, Rushall Olympic, Buxton and Blyth Spartans all made it two wins from their opening two matches in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's Premier Division on Tuesday night, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Skem beat Workington AFC 2-0 at the West Lancs College Stadium, thanks to goals from Tony Rendell after 53 minutes and Danny Mitchley 18 minutes from time.

The Pics edged a five-goal thriller at the Zeeco Stadium in front of a crowd of just under 500 against hosts Stamford AFC, taking an early fourth minute lead through Luke Benbow.

But two goals in a minute shortly before the break from Jordan Smith and Ryan Robbins turned the game in the Daniels` favour. Jack Duggan equalised in the 71st minute and then new signing Bilal Yafai popped up with a 79th minute winner for the visitors.

Buxton also won on their travels – Liam Hardy`s 10th minute effort eventually proving enough at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium against Ramsbottom United.

Blyth Spartans had 403 at Croft Park for the derby with Whitby Town, who had also won on the opening day.

Dan Maguire gave the home side a 13th minute lead that Michael Roberts cancelled out from the penalty spot after 24 minutes. Roberts then gave the Seasiders the lead 12 minutes into the second half, but Robbie Dale levelled five minutes later and then the same player grabbed the winner 14 minutes from time.

Joining Stamford and Ramsbottom in being win-less after two games are Frickley Athletic, beaten 3-0 at Heritage Park by Darlington 1883.

An excellent crowd of 903 saw Tom Portas put the Quakers ahead after 22 minutes and 10 minutes later Nathan Cartman doubled their advantage. Kevin Burgess ensured the points stayed in the north east with a third seven minutes from the end.

There were first wins for Colwyn Bay, fancied Salford City, Mickleover Sports, Ilkeston FC and, emphatically, Barwell.

The Canaries inflicted a 5-1 defeat on newly-promoted Sutton Coldfield Town on the Coles Lane 3G with goals from Liam Kay after 10 minutes, Dominic Brennan after 24 minutes, Kevin Thornton three minutes before the break and then Brady Hickey on 54 minutes and Jamie Towers four minutes from time – a minute after Ryan Pace had netted a consolation for the Royals.

Colwyn Bay won 2-0 at home against Hyde United, courtesy of goals from Chris Sharp and a Robbie Booth penalty in the final four minutes of the match.

Salford won 2-1 at Causeway Lane against Matlock Town with goals from Gareth Seddon just after the break and then Chris Lynch in injury-time after Joel Purkiss had equalised six minutes earlier.

Mickleover beat Halesowen Town 2-0 at home, thanks to Nic Degirolamo on 42 minutes and then Andy Dales 15 minutes from time.

Elsewhere, Ilkeston came back from being a first-minute Lindo Ndlovu goal down at The Meres against Grantham Town to win with former West Brom and Kidderminster Harriers favourite Lee Hughes equalising on the half-hour mark and Matt Baker winning it four minutes from the end.

Tuesday's other game between Marine AFC and Ashton United ended goalless at the Arriva Stadium.
