Tuesday's Premier Division action review

By David Watters

Four of the top five in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier's League Premier Division were in action on Tuesday night, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Three goals from skipper Chris Lynch set second-placed Salford City on the way to a crucial win over promotion rivals Workington AFC at Moor Lane.

A crowd of 555 saw Lynch bag a brace in the opening 13 minutes. But the Reds pulled back on level terms with goals from Sam Smith after 22 minutes and Joe McGee 10 minutes before the break.

Lynch completed his hat-trick on the hour-mark to restore the Ammies lead. Ritchie Allen`s 74th minute penalty and a Danny Webber effort three minutes later stretched the home side`s advantage to three, Kyle May reducing it by one in injury-time.

The win leaves Salford nine points behind inactive leaders Blyth Spartans, both having played thirty-six games.

Workington are fourth, three points behind the Ammies, and have been overtaken by Darlington 1883 after they beat mid-table Ilkeston FC 3-1 at Heritage Park in front of 1,021.

Nathan Cartman gave the Quakers a 10th minute lead that Lee Gaskell added to 12 minutes later. Gary Brown stretched the home side`s lead to 3-0 with 33 minutes gone on the clock, with the Robins `winning` the second half with a last-gasp Daniel Udoh effort.

Barwell re-took fifth spot after a 3-1 Kirkby Road win over Skelmersdale United.

Anthony Carney broke the deadlock to give the Canaries the lead from the penalty spot a minute before half-time. Shaun Tuck equalised 12 minutes after the restart but less than two minutes later Richard Lavery restored the Leicestershire side`s lead and he increased it with 18 minutes to go.

Ashton United remain in the play-off battle in seventh, five points behind Barwell but with games in hand after a 2-0 win at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium against bottom-markers Ramsbottom United.

Martin Pilkington gave the visitors an 11th minute lead. Craig Lindfield, just signed on loan from National League North side FC United of Manchester, grabbed a debut second goal with 21 minutes gone.

Rammy were unable to dent that lead and are now fourteen points adrift of the safety-mark with games running out.

Grant Ryan scored the winner for Grantham Town in a 2-1 win over Sutton Coldfield Town.

Luke Rogers put the Royals ahead on 69 minutes, but the Gingerbreads, who had taken seven points from their last nine available, were not kept down.

Lee Shaw equalised with a header on 80 minutes and then just four minutes later Ryan scored what proved to be the winner.
