Altrincham travel to Shaw Lane in 48 hours on Thursday night still needing four points to claim the title on goal difference and five to be certain of it.
The Ducks themselves have plenty to play for as the defeat at Cantilever Park, courtesy of a seventh minute Sean Williams penalty and a Rory McKeown goal three minutes after half-time after Chib Chilaka had equalised on 27 minutes, left them four points below the top five with two games in hand.
There were no Tameside neighbourly favours at Hurst Cross as Ashton United were looking to cement their top five spot with a win over lowly Stalybridge Celtic, the visitors spoiling the plan by winning 2-1 to leave their hosts six points clear of Shaw Lane, having played two more games.
The Robins led at the break, thanks to Lewis Baines` 23rd minute opener. Matty Wolfenden eventually equalised on 69 minutes and then Jake Charles won it for Celtic with six minutes to go.
Grantham Town in third were held to a 1-1 draw at The Meres by mid-table Hednesford Town.
The Gingerbreads took the lead just after the hour-mark through Stefan Galinski. But in the final seconds of five additional minutes, the Pitmen threw everyone forwarded and whipped a ball across which was powerfully headed home by Danny Glover.
Elsewhere, a 33rd minute Matt Stenson goal earned Barwell a Kirkby Road victory over Lancaster City, while Marine AFC`s Will Smart after 64 minutes and Michael Brewster four minutes later overturned Jak Hickman`s 52nd minute opener for Mickleover Sports.
Mathis Fonovich gave Rushall Olympic a first-minute lead at Matlock Town, whose Michael Williams after 64 minutes and Chris Ondong-Mba on 84 minutes, replied to win it for the Gladiators.
A penalty in stoppage time at the end of the game saw Coalville Town pip Halesowen Town at Owen Street in the evening's other game.
