Tuesday's South Division review

By David Watters

There must have been something in the atmosphere on Tuesday night as Market Drayton Town emulated Goole AFC in the northern section by winning their first game of the EVO-STIK League South campaign, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The Shropshire side beat Newcastle Town 5-2, and it seems to be feast or famine for Castle in the league so far.

They were 5-0 down by the time Jonathan Higham bagged a brace in the last nine minutes. Jud Ellis after 19 minutes and Craig Ryan on 38 minutes gave Drayton a two-goal interval lead that Joe Cuff added to within three minutes of the restart. Ryan`s second on the hour-mark sealed the outcome but Glynn Coney added a fifth for good measure five minutes later.

Frickley Athletic moved into third spot after Carl Stewart`s early seventh minute effort eventually proved enough at Westfield Lane for a 1-0 win against Spalding United.

Sheffield FC have won just the once this term to date and suffered a best-of-seven goal defeats at Chasetown.

But it was a dramatic second half comeback by the Scholars, who found themselves 3-0 down to goals from Mo Ibrahim after nine minutes, Jack Brownell right on half-time and Joel Purkiss on the hour-mark.

Muzi Nduna began the comeback five minutes later, George Cater two minutes after that and then Jacob Lovatt equalised in the 74th minute before Josh Sedgley won it for Chasetown three minutes into stoppage time.

A goal from Lee Cropper 18 minutes from time earned Kidsgrove Athletic local bragging rights in front of a crowd of 309 at Harrison Park against neighbours Leek Town.

And spectators at the Zeeco Stadium may as well have gone home after nine minutes as Stamford AFC and Bedworth United shared a 1-1 draw in which the goals came from the Daniels` Liam Adams after five minutes and the Greenbacks` Iyseden Christie in the ninth!
