TV chance after Moors pull plum tie!

By David Watters

Spennymoor Town pulled the plum tie for the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League in Monday night's televised draw on BBC2 and BT Sport for the first round proper of the Emirates FA Cup.

After beating EVO-STIK NPL rivals Lincoln United 3-0 in the fourth and final qualifying round at the weekend and collecting £12,500 in prize money, Moors manager Jason Ainsley saw his EVO-STIK NPL Premier Division side paired with League One's Milton Keynes Dons, one of a number of ties now in the running to be chosen by the BBC and BT Sport for live coverage.

Stamford, replaying this week in North Wales after drawing 1-1 with National League Wrexham at the weekend, also have a chance of hitting the TV jackpot if they make it through after the clubs were handed the carrot of an away day at League Two Hartlepool United.

Stourbridge, 3-1 victors at Nantwich Town on Saturday, reached the second round last season and will be hoping to do the same again and bank another £18,000 in prize money after the Glassboys were drawn away at National League South Whitehawk.

The first round proper is due to be played over the weekend of Saturday November 5 and Sunday November 6. Eighty clubs went into the hat for Monday night's live draw on BBC2 and BT Sport which was attended by Moors boss Ainsley - the 32 winners of last weekend's fourth qualifying round plus the 48 teams from League One and League Two.

A delighted Ainsley told viewers: "What an occasion. It is all a reward for the hard work and fantastic opportunity for the supporters to go to the game and hopefully see us win."

Hereford-based Westfields FC, the lowest ranked side left in the competition from the Midland Football League, are also among the favourites to attract the attention of the broadcasters after being drawn at home to either National League York City or National League North Curzon Ashton.
