United boss is looking to go local

By David Watters

Skelmerdale United manager Dave Powell is looking local as he puts his squad together for the upcoming 2018-19 EVO-STIK League campaign.

With the focus on continuing Skem's proud track record of developing young local players who've gone on to the professional game, Powell, pictured, set out the criteria for joining his squad on Monday after outlining his vision of ‘building for the future’ at the club's end of season awards night.

According to a statement on the club's website, Powell will be giving priority to prospective players based in Skelmersdale and the surrounding areas. A hunger to succeed coupled with high fitness and motivational levels is also high on Powell's list, along with experience at Northern Premier League level or higher or at a professional club at scholarship level, preferably with some Non-League experience.

A spokesman said: "The club has a history of developing young local players and ahead of the upcoming 2018-19 season, Skelmersdale United are on the lookout for local players to join the playing squad as the club continues the plan to return to the town."
