Vardy just keeps on giving!

By David Watters

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy ensured the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League is in the spotlight around the world again this weekend after setting a new record for scoring in consecutive Premier League games.

The former Stocksbridge Park Steels, Halifax FC and Fleetwood Town hot-shot fired home his 11th goal on the spin in Leicester City's 1-1 draw with Manchester United on Saturday to overhaul Ruud van Nistelrooy's record.

Dutchman Van Nistelrooy achieved his feat for Manchester United across two seasons in 2003. Vardy's run has included 13 goals, making him the league's top scorer with 14 goal tally so far.

Thanks to interest around the world in the rise of the 28-year-old Foxes frontman from the EVO-STIK STIK NPL to the Premier League and international footballer in the space of five years, Stocksbridge Park Steels have been in the spotlight for weeks as Vardy neared the record.

Released by Sheffield Wednesday aged 16, Vardy kicked off his senior career with Stocksbridge Park Steels, breaking into the first team in 2007 and spending three seasons at the Look Local Stadium before switching to Halifax Town in 2010, pictured.

Following his move to Fleetwood Town in 2011 for an undisclosed fee, he signed for Leicester City for a Non-League record transfer fee of £1 million in 2012.

Vardy made his England debut in the summer against the Republic of Ireland in a goalless draw in Dublin on June 7, replacing captain Wayne Rooney for the final 15 minutes.
