Alveston, pictured at Oswaldtwistle St.Mary’s where he held a similar role, brings a wealth of experience to Shawbridge after four decades working in the commercial sector.
In a statement released by the Blues, the 68-year-old said he was looking forward to using his extensive contacts to drive forward the First Division North club's advertising, sponsorship and off-the-field activities. Alveston also admitted that the lure of being involved on a day to day basis in football again had played its part in persuading him to give up the attractions of retirement.
He told the club's website: “I’ve been involved in local football all my life but after I took a step back from the game I have been in sales and business for over 40 years. I’ve had meetings with [chairwoman] Anne Barker in the past and now is the right time to get on board at the club.
“I’ve known manager Carl Garner for a while now and I made the odd visit to Shawbridge. After being approached by the club 12 months ago, the time just wasn’t right and when I was asked six months later I had to decline once again due to my associations with a local side.”
“I've done a lot of work with match day sponsors, advertising and off the field work. I’m used to doing that sort of thing and I plan to continue it at Clitheroe. I can see that this is a club on the up and I can’t wait to get started as I’ve missed being involved in football.”
He added: "We are under no financial constraints and we are now in a position to push on. I love how the club works within its means and if we stick with these philosophies I am sure we will continue to grow in the future.”
