Voting underway for perfect pitches

Sports turf specialists GreenFields are looking forward to handing out the Northern Premier League’s inaugural Pitch of the Year accolades after being appointed last summer as the competition's official pitch partners for the historic 2017-18 50th anniversary campaign.

Launched to reward the best playing surfaces in all three divisions, the winners will unveiled at June’s annual end of season awards night in Blackpool after clubs finish nominating the top three grass surfaces in their respective divisions before a deadline of Friday 16 March.

The short-listed grounds will then be visited by experts from GreenFields who will take into account a number of factors including maintenance resources, geographic location, existing irrigation and the amount of pitch usage before choosing the winners.

As well as the honour of being the first recipients of the new accolades since the league teamed up with GreenFields to offer advice on maintaining grass surfaces and surface solutions to meet the growing demand for 3G and hybrid turf pitches, representatives from the three clubs will also be presented with £500 vouchers to redeem against future maintenance materials or services from the EVO-STIK League’s official pitch partners.

GreenFields marketing manager Louise Henderson said: "With just over two months to go until the end of the season we're inviting all NPL clubs to vote for the top two pitches in their specific leagues. We’ve had 13 nominations so far which is a good start but there are many more pitches that still deserve recognition and we're looking forward to the nominations coming in before the deadline."
