Wednesday's First Division South action review

Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division South

There was only one game in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League on Wednesday night, but it is not one that will give supporters of Evo-Stik NPL First Division South bottom-markers Hucknall Town any joy at all, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Hucknall travelled across to Stafford's Marston Road to take on Northwich Victoria already deep in a relegation battle and fielding a side made up of players signed from lower levels.

The Vics, pre-season favourites for the title given their pedigree, have had a hugely disappointing season to date and need the sides above them to blow up if they are to make the play-offs. However, in front of a paltry attendance of just 52, Vics certainly improved their goal difference after hammering their beleaguered Nottinghamshire visitors 10-0!

Hucknall found themselves 3-0 down inside the opening 12 minutes, courtesy of Kevin Leadbetter, Jamie Rainford and Gary McEvatt. Rainford netted his second and Northwich's fourth from the penalty spot after 22 minutes and McEvatt matched Rainford with his second three minutes before the break.

Seven minutes after the restart Alex Taylor made it 6-0 from the spot and the same player added a seventh on 65 minutes. Danny Wisdom notched the eighth a minute later and three minutes after that, Taylor completed his hat-trick. With a couple of minutes left Joe Bunney ensured the Vics hit double figures to leave the Yellows reeling.
