They certainly need to win their home games but lowly Carlton Town prevented them from doing that on Wednesday night as they earned a 2-2 draw.
In an entertaining encounter, Carlton began the sharper and took the lead after just five minutes when Jordan Wilson ran on to Ben Hutchinson’s through ball and hit a fine drive past Jonathan Saltmer.
Cleethorpes levelled on 35 minutes when Brody Robertson ran clear of the Millers defence and fired home and only a good Jack Steggles save at the death kept the scores level at half-time.
The Owls were much improved in the early part of the second half and took the lead six minutes in when Tim Lowe netted and they should have increased the lead on 65 minutes when Oliver Donald put a free header over the bar.
But Carlton poured forward looking for an equaliser which eventually came on 70 minutes in when Kieran Walker reacted first to a loose ball in the box from a corner and headed home.
A draw was probably a fair result on the night as both sides had late chances to win it with Steggles saving from Marc Cooper while Mamoke Akaunu fired Carlton’s last chance over the bar.
