Wednesday's South Division action review

By David Watters

Lincoln United made it five games unbeaten in EVO-STIK League South on Wednesday night with a 4-1 win over bottom-markers Sheffield FC at Ashby Avenue, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

James Blunden after seven minutes and man-of-the-match Paul Grimes, pictured, after 25 minutes, gave the Whites a comfortable 2-0 lead, and things got even worse for the visitors when they went down to ten-men on the half-hour mark when Adam Chapman was sent-off.

Club`s woeful evening even included missing a penalty soon afterwards after Andy Gascoigne was brought down. But Grant Ryan`s spot-kick was brilliantly saved by Whites `keeper Michael Emery. Damien Magee did manage to pull a goal back for Club three minutes after the break but substitute Andy Toyne’s penalty after Kallum Smith had been fouled after 68 minutes, and another goal for a Grimes on 76 minutes, sealed the points for Lincoln.

In contrast, Kidsgrove Athletic continued their winless run to seven matches after losing 3-0 to Belper Town at the Novus Stadium.

Belper took a 15th minute lead when Leandro Browne arrowed the ball into the net from close range. It was soon 2-0 to the Nailers in the 35th minute when midfielder Dylan Garnett blasted the ball past Dave Parton from 20 yards. And the away side made it 3-0 goal in the 83rd minute through Sam Birks.

Carlton Town began their run of seventeen games in forty-five days with a 1-1 home draw against Stocksbridge Park Steels.

Joe Lumsden gave Steels the lead inside 30 seconds with a neat strike into the net. But Ben Hutchinson levelled on 17 minutes, beating home `keeper Jordan Greaves direct from a corner. Steels had the better of the first half and Brodie Litchfield fired over the bar from close range. Scott Ruthven hit the post for the visitors late on but a point each was a fair return for both sides.
