West Preview: Something's got to give

By James Gordon

The form team meet the league leaders in the EVO-STIK League West Division as Mossley host Atherton Collieries.

Both sides have won five and drawn one of their last six, a run that has seen Colls re-take top spot in the table and Mossley climb in to the play-off places.

Mossley’s 4-3 win at Radcliffe last week outlined their promotion credentials and a win here could well propel them in to the title race.

Atherton plundered eight past Kendal Town to give their goal difference a significant boost, which may well prove telling come the season’s end.

Waiting on Colls to slip up are second placed Runcorn Linnets, who travel to face another side occupying a play-off spot, Leek Town.

Leek lost their derby at Kidsgrove Athletic to dent their recent form, though with games in hand, they are very much in the race for the top.

Radcliffe have wobbled since their long unbeaten run was ended on Boxing Day, losing three of their last five, and a trip to play-off chasing Prescot Cables will be seen as a must-win.

There’s likely to be goals at Volair Park, with Cables boasting the league’s top scorer in Chris Almond, who has 18 goals this season, while Boro’s Tunde Owolabi is bang in form and has 16 for the season.

Boro boss Jon Macken said: "If the lads aren’t up for it after that performance I don’t know what kind of people they are, I’m expecting a big reaction from them its in their hands."

Goalkeeping coach John Birt will take charge of Chasetown for their home game with Colwyn Bay on Saturday, after manager Scott Dundas received a one-match stadium ban and a one-match touchline ban.

Assistant manager Anthony Buckle and coach Martin Prentice also received a two-match stadium ban following their respective sending offs during the game against Runcorn Linnets on December 15th.

Dundas said: "John Birt has done nearly every job at the club and will take charge of the team on Saturday. So please all show him your 100% support during tomorrow's game."

Kidsgrove have won back to back games and they can make it three in a row when they visit lowly Kendal Town, while bottom club Skelmersdale United visit Ramsbottom United.

Two sides chasing the play-offs meet at Shawe View as Trafford host Colne. Colne are level on points with fifth place Leek, while Trafford are just a point behind.

Struggling Clitheroe welcome Widnes, Droylsden host Newcastle Town and Glossop North End visit Market Drayton Town.
