West Round-up: Radcliffe Rokking in the rain

By James Gordon

Two games were abandoned in the EVO-STIK League West Division on a torrid, rainy Saturday.

Leek Town’s clash with Colwyn Bay lasted just 16 minutes before a waterlogged pitch ended proceedings, while Colne and Skelmersdale lasted until half-time before calling it a day.

Atherton Collieries clash with Newcastle Town didn’t even make kick-off, having failed a morning pitch inspection.

It meant Radcliffe could move above Colls and up to second thanks to a 2-1 home win over Chasetown. Tunde Owolabi and Elliot Rokka had them two up by half time and despite Daniel Vann getting one back for the visitors, Radcliffe held on for their fifth straight win.

Leaders Runcorn Linnets maintained their unbeaten home record, but only just, as they staged a late fightback from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Glossop North End.

Dominic Marie and Peter Boyle had the struggling visitors 2-0 up by half time and a penalty from Louis Corrigan gave the hosts hope with seven minutes to go.

Ryan Gibson popped up in injury time to earn the Linnets victory and maintain their place at the top.

Ben Hodkinson bagged a first half hat-trick to help Widnes crush Kendal Town 5-1 up in Cumbria.

George Lomax and Dale Korie-Butler added further goals in the second half, with Mark Buchan’s response for Kendal barely consolation as worries grow around their future.

Jamie Rainford’s quickfire brace earned in-form Ramsbottom United, recently named as the West Division’s Club of the Month, a 2-0 win away at Kidsgrove Athletic.

Prescot Cables and Trafford maintained their play-off positions as both hit four in victory.

Cables shared four goals in a lively first half with Droylsden, including a brace from league top scorer Chris Almond, and they lasted the distance - James McCulloch and Michael Monaghan scoring in the final quarter to earn them a 4-2 win.

Trafford ended a run of four games without a win as they thumped Market Drayton Town 4-1.

Darius Palma’s hat-trick and an Aaron Burns penalty had them 4-0 up inside the first 38 minutes, with Andrew Hartlebury replying after the break.

Clitheroe suffered a fourth straight loss as they were beaten 2-0 at Mossley.

Goals in either half from Ben Halfacre and Ben Richardson earned Mossley only their second win in their last nine games.
